Day 12 - October 22, 2019

Let’s start with an update on the new experience at Love’s Truck Stop.  The semi trucks were in a separate lot from everyone else.  There were a lot of travelers stopped for the night, the majority being cars.  As for our comfort, it wasn’t bad.  A little cramped because we couldn’t run the slide out.  There was a lot of light but nothing flashing so when the curtains were all shut it wasn’t noticed.  Got a little cold, down to 34 degrees, but the furnace ran a bit.  Occasionally the cars around us would start their engines, probably for heat.  The Corvette parked next to us was the most noticeable, but Bob didn’t mind listening to it.  About 7 am I started hearing what I thought were seagulls.  When we went in for coffee I looked for the birds and discovered the truck stop played bird sounds to keep the crows out of the trash.. lol, and get rid of the overnighters.

Wilbur does not care for the Arizona highways, they are very rough.

As we wandered off to Sedona and other places unknown, we took a highway that looked like this...

Not to worry, it was a lot of switch backs into the Oak Creek Canyon between Flagstaff and Sedona.   Real similar to the road down from Crown Point to Multnomah Falls.  Beautiful rocks, cliffs, vegetation (firs and oaks) and a drop of about 2700 feet in elevation.  Hard to get pictures

This came out in Sedona that is all red rock again.  Today we did not stop in Sedona, but we ended up at Dead Horse State Park (near Cottonwood) around 1pm and set up for the night.  That gave us plenty of time to wander around the park, both on foot and on our bikes.  We have definitely found the heat!  It was about 80 degrees when we arrived and dropping to 50 tonight.

Wilbur and his occupants are quite content tonight.  Lots of room to stretch out, full hook-ups, no street lights, and we haven’t seen a corvette or semi, and we have nowhere to be but right here.  Unlike Oregon parks the sites are about 50 feet apart so you don’t see your neighbors.  See if you can find Wilbur...

We are planning to spend two nights here, but in different spaces.  (That’s what happens when you don’t plan ahead.)  Tomorrow we're off to explore a ghost town, Jerome, AZ.
